Cashmere Mafia vs. Lipstick Jungle
The tube has been quite an empty bed loft since Sex and The City left us in 2004. Since then we’ve been contenting ourselves with the I-lost-track-of-the-cycles America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway, and equally dramarific Desperate Housewives, we’ve been patiently awaiting what will be the next big hit for women on the tele.
Apparently, producers have stirred up a mix and they’re popping out with 2 new shows a la Sex and the City. On January 9th at 10pm, ABC will be giving us “Cashmere Mafia,” while NBC will show off “Lipstick Jungle” on Feb 8th.
Because of Candace Bushnell (author of Sex and the City) and producer Darren Star were such an explosive combination, ABC and NBC decided to cash in on their talents by creating these two shows. Cashmere Mafia is produced by Darren, and Lipstick Jungle is written by Candace. So it boils down to which will be the better women for power show?
My vote goes for Lipstick Jungle, at least if you compare both previews.

I’d say Lipstick Jungle is perhaps better written, which to me is what determines the fate of a show. Though it’s a plus that Lucy Liu adds a bit of color in the cast and showcases a wider range of emotions than in her previous works, I wish they could just bring a new fresh asian face on tv. Lipstick Jungle could be Brooke Shield’s comeback to television, as I personally find that it could be a smarter and funnier show.
Sadly it’d be hard to decipher which show is better as we’ll have to wait a whole month until Lipstick Jungle comes along, but I hope the wait will be worth the while.
P.S. Both shows look to be axed on fashion, but I give kudos for Cashmere Mafia for working it on Lucy.

I watched Cashmere Mafia last night was was not very impressed. I do feel that writing can be improved. The characters seemed all one dimensional, typical blackberry obsessed New yorkers…there was no pizzazz and therefore I remain with an empty SATC hole in my heart

I didn’t get to see Cashmere Mafia yesterday, so I didn’t get to see what it was about. But from the previews I’ve seen, I wasn’t really feeling it either. I didn’t seem too enthusiastic when I heard about Lipstick Jungle, but then I saw the preview and the bed running scene and bathroom kissing scene won me over. I’m really hoping it’s going to blossom though, I’m also missing the SATC fix, but hey at least the movie is coming out in May!

I watched the pilot episode online (I know, I’m such a cop out), and it looks to me that they did have some pretty funny moments, though I don’t find Lucy Liu and Miranda Otto’s characters to be that believable and did they change Lucy’s love interest from the preview??
Anyway, I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it, so I’ll probably watch a few more episodes to see how this will turn out!
Haha, I wouldn’t diss Lipstick Jungle yet :p

I love Cashmere Mafia! The characters are great and the show is a lot of fun. I’m planning to check out Lipstick Jungle too, but must say I’m not too excited at this point.
Lucy Liu is great!

I have to say that after watching a few episodes, you get a better picture of how the show is like. Caitlin is my favorite character, she’s the most natural character with a great flair for humor. Zoe and Juliet are cool too, they all have their inner perks when they feel like they can unleash it.
I love Lucy Liu’s looks but they’re so gimmicky in the show, I have yet to see any depth to her character so she’s actually my least favorite out of the bunch.
I’m still excited for Lipstick Jungle because I’m expecting better…lol.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Cashmere Mafia ! I’ve watched every episode so far and can’t wait to see more. The show has color, lots of it, and class. Mia, Juliette, Zoe and Caitlin are awesome. The women are hilarious and akward at times, but no one’s ever always perfect. It’s not always 100% believable either, but who are we kidding, SATC wasn’t either… I love how the show explores many different topics that relate to relationships (sexuality, work, race, family); accurately and openly too. I also like how the women prevail through out each obstacle and challenge they’re faced with. My number 2 show next to SATC.
