RW&CO.’s Green Bag Gimmick?

It’s a hot issue this year to go eco-friendly. RW emailed me this morning displaying their new stylish “reusable” bag, just in time for the holiday season. Nevermind that their bags were already resuable in the first place, they’re just giving me yet another bag to stuff in my closet to collect dust, no matter how stylish it may be.
The tote bag is a marvelous idea, but the problem is that tote bags do not equal stylish in most cases. Tote bags are a great alternative to do grocery shopping or some other type of shopping that doesn’t really care for its branding. However, shopping for clothes is another matter. Honestly, how would I look if I went into Guess and arrived at the cashier and said “No thanks, I got my own bag,” and whipped out my RW bag? Not good for Guess when it comes to branding. And so, what if Guess released their own signature tote bag? Then it’s just a mess of reusable tote bags.
The solution is to find a way to make a tote bag stylish and BRANDLESS. Or they can give you stickers, it all works the same.
So RW&CO. may get brownie points for trying to be more green, but I just think they’re jumping into the Green bandwagon for the wrong reasons.
